Meet Your Therapist

Hi! I’m Katie, and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist in Sacramento, California. I provide individual therapy, couple’s therapy, and Christian counseling to clients all across California.

I take a warm and non-judgmental approach to therapy because it is so, so important to me that you feel like you can be open and real in our sessions. I try to lead by example by being authentic and honest, which also means being direct (yet still kind!) when needed.

I want to build a relationship with you that is real, open, and based on mutual respect. From that foundation, we can work together to nail down what your goals are and make a plan to reach those goals.

What to Expect in Sessions:

In addition to building our strong therapeutic relationship, which helps foster openness, honesty, and trust, you can expect:

  • To talk about past or current experiences that have impacted your reasons for coming in to therapy. I know that might sound painful, but the reason for talking about these things in therapy is to give you the opportunity to make connections you might not have otherwise made, which means GROWTH. Growth means change.

  • To go over different skills that you can practice or tools that you can use inside and outside of therapy. If we don’t do things differently, nothing changes, and I know you are coming in to therapy because you want some things to change.

  • To check in on your goals and your progress from time to time. That way we can change the game plan as needed to make sure therapy is as effective for you as possible.

Virtual Private Practice

My private practice is virtual, and I love it! Working virtually allows me to see clients all over California. It also provides a lot of flexibility for clients. Virtual therapy is perfect for couples who need to take their appointments from home for childcare reasons (as long as you still have privacy!), or for couples who will be joining the appointment from different locations due to work logistics etc. Or, maybe you’re an individual client who loves the idea of taking your therapy appointment from the comfort of your own space, cozied up in a blanket, iced coffee in hand (me too!)

Just like in-person therapy, virtual therapy has both it’s benefits and limitations. The trick to enjoying virtual therapy and getting the most out of your session is preparation.

Here are some tips to prepare for your virtual session:

  • Make sure you have a safe and private place to meet

  • Check that your wi-fi connection is strong and that your computer or phone you will be using is charged

  • Grab some headphones for extra privacy, especially if you are in a home or building with others in nearby rooms/hallways

  • Get comfortable!! A huge benefit to virtual therapy is you can take your session from a comfy and familiar place. Grab a blanket, your favorite beverage, some grounding items, even a snack if you’d like!

  • Check out my blog post here to read more about the types of clients I have noticed tend to thrive in virtual therapy
